What Makes a Women’s Golf Stand Bag Different?

Post has been updated for 2017 with brand new Sun Mountain Women’s Golf Stand Bag offering for 2017.

When we recently attended the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando and decided to ask a few of the leading vendors of women’s golf bags to explain what differentiates a women’s golf carry bag form a men’s bag. We received our best answer from Emily the designer and creator of Sassy Caddy. As she walked us through the features of her highly fashionable women’s stand bags she said the difference comes down to three key things :

  • The bags are more stylish and have greater personality
  • The pockets of the bags are tailored to more specialized uses
  • The bags are two inches shorter then men’s golf carry bags to provide a better fit for the shorter length of women’s clubs

2017 Product Line Update

Sun Mountain understands that the big trade off in carry bags is the weight of the bag versus the number and types of features that are offered.

For 2017, Sun Mountain optimized the level of features and technology that they can offer at a given weight.  Now, when buying a bag, a golfer knows the weight of the bag by its name.  And, they know that as they look at the 2.5 vs 3.5 vs 4.5 vs 5.5 the extent of features increases as the numbers go up.  Congrats to Sun Mountain for clarifying their product line.

Something else that is also clear is that the 4.5 LS is our favorite Sun Mountain bag.  Not too heavy while offering outstanding features.

Weight

As mentioned the weight of the Sun Mountain 4.5 LS Carry/Stand Bag is 4.5 pounds including straps.

This weight is one of the lightest among our recommended bags.

Getting Clubs In and Out of the Bag

The Sun Mountain 4.5 LS has a four-way, slightly flared, round opening with four full length dividers and a diameter of 9.5”. Continue reading Sun Mountain 4.5 LS Stand/Carry Bag Review

Setting Things Straight

For 2017 Sun Mountain changed the names and features of their line of stand bags.  The change occurred to align the names of the bags with the weight / features being offered.  The lower the number within the bag’s name the lower the weight and the fewer the features

As an example, In the past Sun Mountain offered a fantastic bag called the Three 5.  It weighed around 4.5 pounds.  In 2017, the bag with the closest features / weight to the Three 5 is the 2017 4.5 LS. See our review here.

This review is for the 2017 Sun Mountain 3.5 LS.  For those who know the Sun Moiuntain product Line, the 3.5 LS is most comparable to the Sun Mountain 2 Five although it has more features than the 2 Five.

Weight

The weight of the Sun Mountain 3.5 LS Stand Bag is 3.5 pounds including straps but not rainhood.

This weight is one of the lightest high-quality bags that we review.  As mentioned in our Buyer’s Guide there is a trade off between weight and features.  Generally, within a product line, the lower the weight the fewer the options.

Getting Clubs In and Out of the Bag

The Sun Mountain 3.5 LS Bag has a four-way top with full length dividers and a diameter of 9”.  Continue reading Sun Mountain 3.5 LS Stand/Carry Bag Review

In Part 1 of this blog we made the claim that high-quality, single strap golf stand bags were as rare as a blue unicorn. We searched extensively throughout the electronic golf marketplace and discovered that although not quite as rare as the mythical beast, there truly were not many options. It appears that many manufacturers have moved away from single strap models or only offer the option in full-featured caddie and/or staff bags. After looking at about a dozen bags, we did find two options that we liked. Continue reading Single Strap Golf Stand Bag — Searching for a Blue Unicorn (Part 2)

Recently we were asked for a recommendation on the best single strap golf carry bag. The person who asked didn’t like the hassle of the four point, back pack style strap systems that have become the standard in the industry. He felt that a single strap style was significantly easier to put on and take off. At the time we thought that the request would be fairly straightforward although we couldn’t quickly recall any current models with the single strap configuration.

To make a short story shorter we failed in coming up with a quick recommendation for this person who was eager to purchase. So in this blog (Part 1 & Part 2) we are going to chronicle our pursuit of a “blue unicorn” – a high quality, single strap golf carry bag. The Benefits of Using a Golf Carry Bag

We at Best Golf Carry Bags believe that there is only one true way to play and enjoy golf. You have to walk the course. We know we can be a little overly zealous about this but, there are real benefits to walking the course and carrying your stand bag.

Walking a golf course is great exercise

Benefits of using a golf carry bagSome people question whether golf takes any real exertion. Studies have proven that playing a full round of golf in a mortorized cart will burn over 900 calories! Not bad. And, according to Neil Wolkodoff, a director of the Center for Health and Sport Science at the Rose Medical Center in Denver, walking a course will burn over 1400 calories for 18 holes of play. So if you want to burn some calories and get some great exercise, pick up the bag and hit the links. Continue reading The Benefits of Using a Golf Carry Bag
